Deus vult

''Deus vult'' (Latin for "God wills it") was the cry of the people at the declaration of the First Crusade by Pope Urban II at the Council of Clermont in 1095 when the Eastern Orthodox Church requested help in defense from Islamic invasions beginning with the Muslim conquests.〔Morwood, J: ''A Dictionary of Latin Words and Phrases'', page 46. Oxford University Press, 1998〕 The phrase appears variously as Deus vult (Classical Latin), Dieu le veut (French), Deus lo vult, etc.
''Deus lo vult'' is the motto of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a Catholic order of chivalry.
Another Latin phrase with differently inflected forms of the same words is Deo volente, an ablative absolute clause meaning ''(with) God (being) willing''.
